Let's dish about mistmatched vintage dishes

Mr. and I are soon-to-be homeless. Right now, we live in an adorable one-bedroom in the center of Amsterdam, overlooking a lovely canal filled with swans and ducks, but come May 2nd we are HOMELESS! The reason I am telling you all this is because I LOVE vintage plates. I am head over heels obsessed with vintage plates. BUT, since we don't have a home, we really aren't in a position to accept a lot of traditional gifts. We literally have no idea where we'll be from May - October but chances are that we'll be living out of suitcases and a storage unit. That being said, we have to be careful about what we buy and what we register for.

One of the most amazing things about living in Amsterdam is the proliferation of antique stores! I spend at least 4 hours a week just wondering through all these trinket-filled stores, running my hands over everything.

So here's what I've decided. I would love a set of small mismatched vintage plates of my very own. I know other Bees have blogged about this in the past, but I can't help it. Is it just me? Is this just a passing fad?

There are really two issues at play here. One, I want mismatched vintage plates at my wedding. and two, I want vintage plates of my very own.

1. For the Wedding

I did a little research and it looks like there are dozens of UK based companies that rent vintage plates, and only a handful based in the U.S., and NONE that ship internationally (understandably).
This means there is virtually no way I'll be having vintage plates at my wedding. :(

2. For me

Although I'm strongly considering collecting my own vintage plates over the next few weeks and shipping them back to the U.S. myself. I recently stumbled across Antiquaria, an amazing online vintage home goods store. I immediately added half of their plates, cake stands and tea cups to my registry. For instance, how amazing is this 5 piece china place setting?!?

So even though my wedding may have to be "vintage plate-less," perhaps my home won't!

Do you still love mismatched vintage plates? What about other places to register for vintage China?

Wedding Registry!!!

Laura and I are in the final rounds of StD drafts so I thought it would be an appropriate time to start consideriing the wonderfulness that is the Wedding Registry!

Another reason I knew that I wouldn't see eye to eye with the off beat bride, is that she was very dismissive of the idea of registering for household items.... I, on the other hand, have been waiting for this day for as long as I can remember. Well at least since the day I saw my very first Kitchenaid standing mixer. (sigh)

So last night I took a first stab at starting my wedding registry. I have decided to use a website called My Registry instead of starting individual websites. The reason I love "My Registry" is because it allows me to add items from any online to one centralized location... this makes it easier for me to keep track of which items I have already added to my registry!

The best thing about My Registry is that you can add a "Add to MyRegistry.com" button onto your browser so when you are browsing a website you just click the button and it adds the item to your registry. It's amazingly convenient but also has made my registry super long... sigh. I'll just keep adding stuff until I actually share my registry then I can edit it down, right??

The four stores I've picked so far are: Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Target and World Market. What am I missing???

Registry: oh the joy!

I am not sure when you are suppose to register, but people keep asking us where we are registered. Through a process of faulty logic I have decided this means that I am suppose to register now.

If only it was that simple.

Unfortunately, we are planning on moving 4+ times in the next year so the prospect of starting a large collection of "things" isn't that appealing. So, I have been looking for non-traditional registry ideas.

The first thing I found was traveler's joy. Although I LOOOOVE to cook and I anticipate registering for a number of kitchen appliances I thought this was a great start.

Today on Rue La La

Since coming to NY I have become addicted to online shopping. Some of my favorite sites include Gilt, Ideeli, Haute Look, and Rue La La.

Now that I am wedding planning, I always keep an eye out for good deals on dresses (potential bridesmaids dresses), vacations on jetsetter (potential wedding locations) and everything in between.

Today on Rue La La, I found these adorable pedestal stands from Rosanna.

Unfortunately I got there too late to get the one I want :( but they do have a wedding registry...:D

Happy Saturday!
