Flower fears

One of my biggest fears about getting married on the beach in Costa Rica was the flower situation. Now, I am not a BIG flower person. By that I mean, I never dreamed of a wedding with thousands and thousands of flowers. In fact I hate floral archways and one of the first things I decided was that I WOULD NOT get married under one. So my fear was that I would end up with very limited floral choices. Generally tropical bouquets tend to look like this:

Unfortunately I have no interest in having a tropical wedding. I just want to a gorgeous, romantic wedding in a tropical location. It kind of broke my heart when I learned that peonies were not an option but since peonies are a kind of pricy flower I quickly got over that.... Then I became obsessed with orchids! I've always loved orchids.

Just recently my fab wedding planner informed me that three new flowers entered the market in Costa Rica: dahlias, dusty millers, and succulents...and I am SOOO excited. I am definitely keeping my eyes open now that I have so many new options.

I am totally excited about these new options... but I have to admit, I don't know anything about flowers. I have a sense of what I like but definitely don't know the names of most flowers that are common in wedding bouquets. What are your favorite wedding flowers? and how do your flowers fit into the overall feel of your wedding??

Surf & Style

When I was talking to my wedding planner yesterday she asked me how I would describe our couple style. I told her that our wedding would be a combination of his laid back surfer style and my affinity for vintage romance. This wedding comes pretty close to striking that balance... I would probably do a little more lace and a little softer colors for my own wedding. Also you may not be able to tell but this couple is ADORABLE!! Regardless... enjoy!

I ♥ Succulents

I spent last Thanksgiving in LA with my FF's amazing family. The weather was amazing. We spent Thanksgiving morning on the beach...and even saw dolphins!!

The day after Thanksgiving his parents took us to a park they love on Muholland Drive and on the way back we stopped at Trump National Golf Course and Terranea. While I was there I kind of fell in love with the succulents growing everywhere. Since then I bought two of my very own, Culpepper and Rosemary (yes, I still name all my possessions).

I also made a mental note about having succulents at my wedding. At that time I wasn't reading wedding blogs yet so I didn't really have a sense of what it would look like but I thought it could be amazing. It turns out a lot of people share my love for succulents.

Succulents are also great because they are eco-friendly alternative to cut flowers that can be used everywhere flowers are used. The best thing about succulent bouquets is, they can be replanted and kept as an amazing reminder of your big day! Here are some of my favorite succulent-filled weddings!
